On September 9, 2014 Ambassador of Ukraine to Singapore Pavlo Sultansky took part in the debate at the NUS Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy preceded by Nancy Gallagher’s, Research Director at the Center for International and Security Studies at Maryland (USA), lecture.
In his comment on the events in the Crimea and the Ukrainian East Ambassador stressed that the population of these territories, which allegedly wishes to join Russia, in fact, is mostly nostalgic for the Soviet era. This happened ‘cause in 70-80s of the XX century Crimea and Donbas for various reasons belonged to the relatively privileged regions. In times of total deficit Crimea was being developed as a resort area and Donbas was being provided bountifully as a coal-miner's region.
So, now, when confronted with roughness of Moscow managers, the Crimea and Donbas population loses Kremlin-made propagandist illusions.
The Ambassador of Ukraine also initiated discussion on reasons for inefficiency of international global institutions, which by their nature should have reined in the aggressor - permanent member of the UN Security Council, to make him act in accordance with international commitments.
