On September 23, 2014, on the occasion of the conclusion of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU Ambassador of Ukraine Pavlo Sultansky was invited to participate in the monthly meeting of the heads of diplomatic missions of the EU member states accredited to Singapore.
Ambassador Michael Pulch, Head of the EU Delegation to Singapore, in his opening remarks emphasized the special importance for Europeans of the synchronous ratification of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU. He expressed his hope for a gradual de-escalation of Ukrainian-Russian conflict, the basis of which, according to him, was laid by Minsk agreements on the ceasefire.
Ambassador Sultansky shared his views on the origin of Russian claims to control Ukraine, reaching Horde times from which aggressive mentality of Moscow rulers takes its roots. European diplomats were also introduced to the broad palette of nowadays events in Ukraine, the key tasks the Government of the country faces amidst the annexation of the Crimea, invasion by the regular units of the Russian Armed Forces of the Donbass, subversive activity of the Russian Special Service throughout the country.
Objectives of the decentralization of power in Ukraine, reasons for partial postponement of implementation of the economic component of the Association Agreement, etc. were explained.
Ambassador of Poland Zenon Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized the consistent role of Poland in support of Ukraine's European aspirations and deep mutual understanding between the two peoples that passed through the various ordeals.
At the end of the friendly event European diplomats suggested that Ukrainian flag on the table of European meetings should appear not as an exception for the guest of honor but as one of the symbol of Ukraine’s full-scale EU membership.
