Ukraine should join ASEM

On November 5, 2014 at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy the EU Visiting Fellow at the School Xavier Nuttin reported on results of the 10th ASEM Summit.

The lecturer noted in particular the numerous meetings between the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and the heads of states and governments of the ASEM members.

During the Q&A session the experts, diplomatic corps representatives and students of the School talked about the achievements of the dialogue between the two strongest regions since 1996. The ASEM shortcomings were also noted as well as the proposals for the dialogue improvement.

Ambassador of Ukraine Pavlo Sultansky who attended the vent explained the motivations of participation of the President of Ukraine at the Milan summit, where the issue of Russian aggression against Ukraine had not been on the agenda but could not be silenced. He praised the flexibility of the platform created by ASEM for the Europeans and Asians, which is an absolute advantage of ASEM as a tool for mutual understanding. This viewpoint found support among the participants.

It was stressed on the relevance of Ukraine’s membership in the Asia-Europe Meting.
