On January 13, 2015 Ambassador of Ukraine Pavlo Sultansky met with the Chairman of Singapore - Europe Parliamentary Friendship Group, Deputy Chairman of the Governmental Parliamentary Defence and Foreign Affairs Committee Ms Ellen Lee.
The Singaporean MP was told about the Address of the Verkhovna Rada [Parliament] of Ukraine to the national Parliaments, International Organizations and Inter-Parliamentary Assemblies on release of the Ukrainian pilot, people’s deputy of Ukraine of the VIII convocation Nadiia Savchenko. It was stressed that N.Savchenko, like many other Ukrainian patriots, had been kidnapped by the Russian-terrorist gangs, transported to the territory of the Russian Federation and contrary to the international law are kept as hostages under faked pretenses and on falsified charges.
Ukraine highly appreciates the stance that from the beginning of Russian aggression against Ukraine was taken by Singapore and that was personally confirmed by the President Tony Tan and the Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong during the meetings with the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko on his visit to Singapore in December last year.
The MP Ellen Lee stressed that Singapore had been and remained firmly convinced that the rule of law should prevail in international relations, and no country, no matter whether it is large or small, should jeopardize the world order.
In response to the Verkhovna Rada’s Address regarding Nadiia Savchenko and other Ukrainian hostages detained by Moscow Ms Ellen Lee said: "We are concerned with what is going on." She also asked about the health condition of N.Savchenko after month of hunger strike and called her a strong woman. The MP praised Ukrainians as very determined people and wished them to emerge into strong nation.
