Prof. Timothy J. Colton of the Harvard University delivered the lecture "Nationalism and the Evolution of Putin's Regime in Russia" at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy of the National University of Singapore on February 27, 2015.

He presented an academic view on how Russian nationalism ideology and propaganda have evolved since early imperial ages till Putin's decade. He made special emphasis on Russia's tricks on covering the neo-imperialist aspiration by the patriotism slogans, and presenting the cruel nature of the “Russian world” (Russkiy mir) ideology as an innocent humanitarian project e.g. familiarization with Russian language . The scholar repeatedly appealed to Ukraine's example, including Crimea, as an illustration of Russia's offensive nationalism.

Ambassador of Ukraine to Singapore Pavlo Sultansky took part in the Q&A session inviting participants to pay attention to the question of the Russians' identity, taking into consideration the distortion of Muscovite's history that has been taking place since the XVIII century - when it was re-written starting from its Golden Horde's subordinate ulus years till nowadays. He stressed that the Russia's Crimean Anschluss was possible not because of the local population eagerness to enter the dying and degrading empire, but due to the nostalgic memories of the benefits that peninsula earned during the USSR era through the budget pittances and special status.

The lecture was not finished without appeal of the Russism apologist who accused the LKY School of being biased and urged Prof. Colton to reconsider his views and to admit that the core of entire scourge are the USA and the US-led West.
