The event was held a month after the demise of Singapore's founding father Lee Kuan Yew and in the year of the 50th anniversary of the independent existence of the city-state. These were particularly stressed by the President in his speech.

Ambassador of Ukraine to Singapore Pavlo Sultansky talking with the President and Prime Minister of Singapore reiterated the gratitude of Ukraine for the firm and consistent position of Singapore in support of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country, facing Russia that for the second consecutive year wages undeclared war against Ukraine. It was also noted that the positive momentum was given to Ukraine-Singapore relations by the December 2014 visit to Singapore of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.
