Ukrainian Maritime Night in Singapore united the international community around the support of Ukrainian seafarers.
For the third time, the Marine Transport Workers' Trade Union of Ukraine (MTWTU) jointly with the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Singapore, the Singapore’s maritime trade unions SMOU and SOS, as well as the International Maritime Employers’ Council (IMEC) and ASP, held the Ukrainian Maritime Night in Singapore.
The event was dedicated to the role of Ukrainian seafarers in the global maritime industry in times of war and aimed to show that Ukrainian maritime specialists remain an important part of global shipping, demonstrating professionalism, dedication and resilience even in the extremely difficult circumstances.
The event brought together representatives of trade unions, shipping companies and charitable organizations, diplomatic circles and the Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore. The event evidenced unity of the international maritime community and support for Ukraine.
Participants emphasized the exceptional contribution of Ukrainian seafarers to ensuring the continuity of global maritime transportation, as well as the importance of further cooperation between trade unions, shipowners and educational institutions.
Oleg Grygoriuk, Head of the MTWTU, Kateryna Zelenko, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Singapore, representatives of IMEC, SMOU and SOS delivered their addresses and expressed support for Ukrainian seafarers and readiness to develop further cooperation.
Mykola Kravchuk, the Head of the State Service for Maritime, Inland Waterway Transport and Shipping of Ukraine, emphasized the importance of Ukrainian seafarers for the world fleet and showed the scale of the damage suffered by the country's port infrastructure in his video address.
A joint educational project between the MTWTU and IMEC was presented. Its implementation allowed the National University "Odesa Maritime Academy" and the Kherson State Maritime Academy to receive the access to Wärtsilä Cloud Simulation - a system for developing digital skills of cadets.
The event became a symbol of the indomitability, solidarity, and professional unity of the maritime community, and confirmed again that Ukraine remains an important maritime state, and its seafarers are an integral part of the global industry.
