The long-planned charity auction was held on 9 March 2014 at Singapore Lawry’s The Prime Rib restaurant in Mandarin Gallery with participation of the Minister for Manpower, Second Minister for Defense of Singapore TAN Chuan-Jin, Ambassador of Ukraine Pavlo Sultansky with spouse and consul of the Embassy of Ukraine in Singapore. The event was organized by Vinci Arts Gallery and supported by sponsors.
The event was aimed at raising funds for the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped from the sale of paintings by famous Ukrainian artist Oleh Lazarenko and individual contributions of participants.
Date of the auction was chosen deliberately – to mark the 200th anniversary of birth of Taras Shevchenko, to the image of whom O.Lazarenko repeatedly turned in his works.
Talking with representatives of the Ukrainian Embassy many participants of the charity event expressed support of Ukraine and condemned Russian aggression. It was repeatedly noted that smaller countries should do everything in order to protect themselves from potential aggressors, to be able to respond to infringements of their sovereignty and territorial integrity. It was not once noted that Moscow had cynically disregarded international law and its own commitments.
Ambassador of Ukraine in his speech expressed deep gratitude to the Government of Singapore which unequivocally condemned Kremlin’s aggression against Ukraine and encroachment on the territorial integrity of the Ukrainian State.
Referring to the anniversary of Taras Shevchenko Ambassador emphasized his nation-creation role for Ukraine and Ukrainians in the world. He appealed to Singaporeans asking to continue to support the right of Ukrainians to have "at their home their own truth, and strength, and will."
