On August 4, 2014 Canadian Foreign Minister John Baird spoke at the IISS Fullerton Lecture on the countries foreign policy in Asia and globally. Ambassador of Ukraine to Singapore Pavlo Sultansky raised the issue of wrecking of the world security law and order due to Moscow’s aggression against Ukraine and annexation of Crimea by Russia.
The Minister claimed that Canada had always been and remained supportive for the existing system of international security, and the tricks of the Kremlin leader should not lead to its destruction. The sanctions that are being gradually implemented should influence all the Russian society and the aggressor’s economy on macro and micro levels: the weapons supply must stop, as well as any other support of terrorists in eastern Ukraine by Moscow, and the Russian troops must be withdrawn from the Ukrainian Crimea. He assured that Canada would further support Ukraine.
Ambassador Sultansky recalled that Canada was the first in the world to recognize Ukraine’s independence and expressed his appreciation of Canada standing side by side with the Ukrainian people when Moscow once again questions the sovereignty of Ukraine.
