On November 27, 2014 Ambassador of Ukraine to Singapore Pavlo Sultansky held the roundtable lecture hosted by the Institute of South Asian Studies of the National University of Singapore featuring "The situation in and around Ukraine - the likely consequences for Asia."

In his opening remarks Dr. Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury of the ISAS noted
that the roundtable attended by scientists, representatives of diplomatic missions and businessmen was being held during very difficult times: the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine were challenged by the big neighbor that had ignored international law and its bilateral commitments to Ukraine.
Probably, he said, the situation would be different if once Ukraine voluntarily hadn't gotten rid of the nuclear weapons under the guarantees of the States that today stepped aside from fulfilling the Budapest Memorandum provisions of 1994. And one of the guarantors - Russia - even annexed the part of Ukrainian territory and supported militants that undermined the security of Ukraine in its east.

P.Sultansky focused on the milestones of the modern history of Ukraine: the Maidan uprising, execution of the Heavenly Hundred, cynical annexation by Russia of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, turbulent events in Donbas, the presidential and parliamentary elections, support for Ukraine by the civilized world, etc.

The audience was offered several topics for analysis and comments, in particular on how the MH17 tragedy became the sever warning of the ubiquity of threats when terrorists are sponsored by the states. The Kremlin propaganda machine, which is generously funded to indoctrinate Russia's own population and to disseminate fake products, as well as the numerous Russian proxies that are trying to find supporters among the Asian countries to help Moscow to oppose the West, were disputed.

The discussion showed much sympathy and commitment of its participants to Ukraine which was again struggling for its independence. There were some alternative opinions about topics discussed. In particular, there were doubts about the advisability of Ukraine's accession to the increasingly weakening European Union, as well as critical remarks on the United States over their dim position, and doubts on Crimea liberation from the invaders, and even the idea of reunification of Ukraine with Russia into the "united brotherly state."

Summing up the event, Dr. I.Chowdhury said that in the series of Ambassadors' Lectures this meeting would be remembered as one of the most emotional and sincere. He supported the Ambassador P.Sultansky's idea regarding the inevitability of Ukraine's victory over the aggressor.
