The 23rd International Biology Olympiad (IBO) was held in Singapore on 8-15 July 2012 with the participation of 234 secondary school students from 54 countries of all continents – the biggest number in all years. Ukraine was represented by the students from three provinces and Kyiv. Although Ukrainian team didn’t appear among winners, schoolchildren and their mentors fully experienced the spirit of competition and high quality of the event’s organization. Particularly, for those who don’t speak English well enough the receiving party provided interpreters, enabling them to take part in the contests. The best result among Ukrainian participants was achieved by V.Kleshchevnikov, who ranked 64th.
During the opening ceremony Ambassador of Ukraine in Singapore, speaking with the Guest-of-Honour, President of Singapore Tony Tan, said that participation of Ukrainian children in the 23rd IBO is another evidence of the positive dynamics of Ukraine-Singapore relations. The Head of State, in his turn, agreed on the existence of especially attractive prospects of educational and scientific cooperation between our countries.
