Dear Excellencies, friends of the cinematography, fellow Ukrainians,
Thank you for your interest towards Ukrainian film and being with us so late in the night.
The 25th European Union Film Festival in Singapore is praised as the most representative cinema event of this year.
For the third time Ukraine participates in the EUFF representing national cinematography, and now with "Brothers. The Final Confession".
Director Victoria Trofimenko created this movie, which will be showcased minutes later, being blessed by the author of the Sweetness novel, the famous Swedish writer Torgny Lindgren, whose narrative laid basis for the scenario.
The story is transplanted from Swedish realities to the Ukrainian Carpathian Mountains, changing names, attires, particulars, but psychologically remaining same dramatic.
Experts say, the film is heavy, but stays with you and leave you space to think.
This film is not about black and white, said Victoria when interviewed in September 2014. She wanted viewers to remain thoughtful after watching it. Because it is about life and death: very common things on the Earth.
Ukrainians experience very hard times now. We are defending our soil from Russian aggressors, waging war against us for the second consecutive year.
I'd like you to know that the cameraman of the "Brothers" Slava Pilunsky from Ukrainian Sevastopol was captured by Russian invaders on March 16, 2014 in Ukrainian Crimea on the fictitious allegations, and miraculously released after 6 days detention.
He escaped, contrary to dozens of Ukrainians illegally detained in Russian prisons. Among them Ms Nadiya Savchenko, Member of the Parliament of Ukraine, and filmmaker Oleg Sentsov, who were kidnapped by Russian secret service and are kept hostages.
These are our present days realities.
And to conclude.
During this Film Festival 29 European movies are being shown accompanied by films of talented Singaporean students of the Puttnam School of Film, LASSALLE College of the Arts.
I wish you find Ukrainian one interesting and coherent to the Singaporean views concerning descent life, respect to others, and tolerance for different mindset.
Thank you and enjoy.
